SHA-256 Hash Generator

Generate SHA-256, SHA-1 and SHA-512 hashes of any text.

Produce a cryptographic hash of any text using SHA-256 (or SHA-1 / SHA-512). A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of your input: the same text always yields the same hash, but you cannot work backwards from the hash to the text. Use it to verify file or message integrity, compare values without exposing them, or generate checksums. Hashing runs entirely in your browser using its built-in Web Crypto engine, so nothing you type is uploaded.

How to use the SHA-256 Hash Generator

  1. Choose the algorithm (SHA-256 is the common default).
  2. Type or paste the text you want to hash.
  3. Copy the resulting hexadecimal hash from the result box.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reverse a hash back to the original text?

No. Cryptographic hashes are one-way by design. Identical input always gives identical output, but the process cannot be undone.

Should I use SHA-1?

SHA-1 is included for compatibility with older systems, but it is considered weak for security. Prefer SHA-256 or SHA-512 for anything new.

Do you offer MD5?

Not here — browsers’ built-in crypto does not include MD5. SHA-256 is a stronger, modern replacement for most uses.
